BIO

Arkayla are Cal Blakebrough (Vocals/Guitar), Finley Rubens (Guitar), Theo Savage (Bass), and Patrick Hanbury (Drums). Formed in 2020 in Manchester, England, this explosive new four-piece have quickly gained a reputation for their charged (and often sold out) live shows and unique songs. Influenced by the rich musical history of the northwest, including The Beatles, The Smiths, and The LA's, Arkayla combines stadium-sized guitar riffs, beautiful harmonies, and raw vocals to create a sound that is reminiscent of the past, but is truly their own. The lads have already seen local radio play on BBC Introducing Lancashire with their debut single Calling Time, and as big Manchester United fans they are thrilled that the track has been added to the matchday playlist at Old Trafford. Their headline show at the iconic Night and Day Cafe, will serve as the release party for Calling Time. Discussing the single, one half of Arkayla’s songwriting duo Finley Rubens affirmed “There’s no new bands about today releasing short no-nonsense melody centric indie music right now. We’re looking to bring back proper songs that work on an acoustic just as well as they would in a stadium.”

Calling Time is a powerhouse of a rock and roll track that is the perfect introduction to their unique sound. Featuring a brazen guitar riff and thunderous drums, the song's driving beat and catchy melody are infectious. Not only do these instrumental elements make "Calling Time" a standout - The lyrics paint a picture of a person who is struggling to break free. from what exactly? According to the band That's open to interpretation. "The track has its own meaning to each listener." explains lead singer Cal Blakebrough. "We've all experienced the feeling of wanting to escape at some point in our lives. Even if it has a specific meaning to us, we like to keep our lyrics open ended. we don't want to put our audience in a box where they have to think a certain way. That takes all the fun out of it." Lead guitarist Finley Rubens also shared his experience writing the song. "We wrote this track in about 15 minutes, the best ones always come to us quickly out of the blue"  The track has already seen radio play on BBC Radio Lancashire and Salford City Radio

As songwriters, Cal and Finley idolize the legendary Lennon and McCartney, drawing inspiration from their storytelling ability and iconic harmonies. "When we write a song, it's always melody first, harmony second, and then the words can turn up whenever they want. You can have great lyrics and meaning behind a song, but without a great melody your never going to connect with anyone's emotions" Says Finley. Their songs are raw, honest, and relatable, and they have a knack for crafting catchy melodies that stick in your head long after the song is over. But the influences of the other band members shouldn't be overlooked. Drummer Patrick Hanbury is heavily influenced by bands like Black Midi, bringing a sense of power and energy to the group. Bassist Theo Savage was brought up on funk rock and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, adding a groove and swagger to the band's sound. All these influences amalgamate to create a unique blend that is truly Arkayla.

The band have played sold out shows at venues like The Castle Hotel and 33 Oldham street but there's no denying that Night and day is a well deserved step up. "We're beyond excited, it's one of the most legendary venues in Manchester. A lot of the bands we look up to have played there like the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Johnny Marr. We're honoured to be able to say we’re headlining there," says lead singer Cal Blakebrough. "We can't wait to show everyone what we've been working on and share our music with them."

The Night and Day Cafe show (30th MARCH) is a must-see for anyone looking for a night of unforgettable music. Tickets for the show are on sale now. Don't miss your chance to see Arkayla live and be among the first to hear their debut single.
